How to Understand God (HUG)
The monthly focus is a written excerpt taken from one of Jim and Brian’s talks, with a link to listen to the entire talk. In holding to a one-pointed focus on Spirit, each month we post a new written excerpt by either Jim or Brian. The worldwide monthly focus on Spirit helps us collectively deepen our understanding of God.
July 2024 — LIVING YOUR TRUTH
Monthly Focus ~ SUMMER FOCUS
Give yourself three months, and make a commitment to yourself that you’re going to spend some time every day asking yourself, “What is my truth right now? What is my truth today? What is my truth?”
And see if you don’t begin to pull something from within you that begins to reveal a simple truth of who you really are, and what it is you’re really here to do.
Full Excerpt ~ Jim Gordon
The one thing I want to help people understand is to get in touch with their truth, to stop listening to the truths of others that are being placed upon them, and to follow their own truths. But now, where do you find your own truth? What is that voice of truth inside of you and how do you begin to hear it, and how do you begin to trust it, and how do you interpret the way it shares with you? That’s what meditation is about. Meditation is a way by which you go inside and begin to touch into your truth, your inner truth. Not the truth of the world, but the truth of who you are as Soul, as Spirit, as Divine.
And it’s a wonderful thing to begin to touch into that movement of Loving, and to begin to experience God’s truth that dwells in you, coming alive in you, and beginning to express itself and share itself, and demonstrate itself in you and around you, and for you and with you.
But it means going inside and letting go of all that is out here that has been placed there for you to see, to know, to experience, to believe, and to go inside and begin to let go of everything, to come in touch with the truth inside of you. And your truth is different than my truth, and my truth is different than another because we are all here to have a certain experience of life.
God has put the soul into this creation to experience creation, and to experience it in many different ways. That’s why there are so many souls inhabiting so many bodies so that God could experience life from so many different angles and aspects of it. So that God in us, and God in all of us, and God that is, can have the greatest understanding and knowing, and experience of God’s self, in creation, in expression.
And so, each of us are here to have experience in our own way. But in order to do that, we’ve got to get in touch with that which is inside of us that knows that truth, and begin to touch into that and live that fully. So I would say, give yourself three months. Give yourself three months, and make a commitment to yourself that you’re going to spend some time every day asking yourself, “What is my truth right now? What is my truth today? What is my truth?” And see if you don’t begin to pull something from within you that begins to reveal a simple truth of who you really are, and what it is you’re really here to do.
And let it be okay if that truth that you touch into shakes you a little bit, stirs you a little bit, because it will. Because it may rub up against all those things that have ever been put on you, that you’ve been holding as sacred, that you’ve been holding as precious as something that you have to do, because: “I am a Gordon, I’m a Smith, I’m a this, I’m a that, and this is what we do.” Well, maybe it’s not true. Maybe this isn’t what we do. Maybe it’s time now for you to do what you do, and let go of all that other.
Tradition is a wonderful thing, but tradition also can work against us if we’re not careful. So meditation is a simple action of getting in touch with you, with who you really are, with your truth, with your loving, with your essence, with that life force that gives life to this body. Look around. We all are different. We’re all having different experiences. We all are looking for one thing – love. We’re all looking to be loved, and we’re all looking for a place to love.
The soul is Loving, and the soul is ever longing, and looking for that place where it can be Loving – be Loving with itself and be Loving with others. But the thing is, we’re always looking outside for the love, because the world told us, “Well it’s out here. Your love of your life is out here. Your truth is out here. It’s in these books, it’s in this school, it’s in this church, it’s in this temple, it’s in that person.”
That’s not really what I have found.
Your truth, your love is all inside you. The soul is Loving. If we will get in touch with that Loving Essence inside of ourselves, and begin to live in that movement of Loving, we are going to find a fulfillment in life that is greater than anything we can ever imagine, because we will fulfill our truth. We will fulfill our loving. We will find the true love of our life, which is our own soul.
A lot of people have come to me over the years. I’ve been counseling, and talking to people since I was eighteen years old, and the one thing, especially years ago, not quite so much as in the past, but people would come to me looking for their soulmate, their twin flame, and they know the person is out here. “Oh, I’m going to find them, I know, and I can feel it. I know they’re in the world and I’m going to marry them.”
The one thing I’ve always said is there is no soulmate in the world. Stop looking because your soulmate is in Spirit, it is in Soul, it is you.
The truth of who you are looking for is that Divine Living Loving Essence that lives in the Realms of Soul and Spirit, that is you. And only a Divine spark has come down into this physical body to inhabit, and animate it, and have experience here. When it is done, it withdraws from the physical body. The body becomes inanimate, and you go back as this Divine spark, and merge back into your own soul once again, your soulmate, and you are One, and you are complete, and fulfilled. That’s the journey of the soul.
It isn’t about out here. There’s nobody out here in the world that is also carrying your soul essence, and you two have to come together to be fulfilled in the world. That’s not the journey of the soul.
Our loves in the world are places where we can learn. They are great teachers to us, as we are great teachers to them. When we come together in loving, in this world, it’s because we have an opportunity with that other person to learn, and to grow together, and to have that support, and to also have a mirror of ourselves, so that we can have reflected back to us our lessons as we reflect back to them theirs. But they are not our soulmate. They are not going to complete us. We have to complete ourselves by doing the inner, and the outer work, and then we can merge back with our soulmate, which is in the Soul.
